MTR Selects Vega For In-Station Digital Signage Network
24 Jun 2008
After extended deliberation, Hong Kong's MTR has awarded the contract for the contract for station digital screens to local AV specialist Vega. Vega will be implementing the DISE digital signage software system from Sweden's Display Evolution, of whom they are a local distributor.
Vega fought off intense competition in a tender process that went more than 6 weeks beyond its original due date. The tender covers a range of implementations including displays within the escalator tunnels and video walls in ticketing halls.
MTR is already running digital media in its two main rail networks, it is the largest outdoor medium in Hong Kong and reaches 54% of the local population. The Airport Express and KCRC in-train systems are both well established mediums and the subway itself also has large format displays mounted on the walls across from the platforms in a number of key stations.
JC Decaux hold the main media contract for the sale of advertising across the MTR properties.
AKA COMMENT
The competition for this account was obviously intense - and Vega appears to have won it by focusing more on traditional AV presentation solutions, than the more industrial ruggedised solutions one would normally expect in a metro environment.
Unlike many other transit operators, where the provision of all advertising infrastructure is sub-contracted, the MTR has a history of installing and maintaining all the equipment within its different environments itself.
