AKA COMMENT

The ability of the different senses to engage is a fascinating area. Moving video works as the eyes ignore static elements as being non-threatening. Equally the brain reacts to different sounds as indicators of different levels of threat (bird song means there is little threat about - so when birdsong is played in airports, there is a significant decrease in passenger stress levels). Touch media, through new gesture-based interactive systems, has also been shown to provide some of the more memorable and mentally engaging outcomes.

Smell similarly appeals to some of our most basic primary reactions - and our general feelings of well-being or discomfort are often related to the connotations of a different smell. Many retailers are already considering strategies to present customers with the ideal combinations of complete sensory stimulation to improve their environments and boost sales. The issue is of course that everyone is different, afterall one person's love song is another's tragic reminder.

Meantime ScentAir's integration of smell technology with video, audio and light is a step towards the creation of the ultimate all round synthetic 'super-environment'.
