NEC To Launch 57-inch 3D display

5 Mar 2008

NEC Display Solutions of America are offering their advertising clients something eye-catching and new to reach their consumers. Through a link up with Magnetic Media Holdings they are to enable their 57-inch LCD display to show 3D video content using Magnetic’s Enabl3D technology.

Enabl3D allows 3D digital content to move more than a foot off the screen without the use of any special glasses - and plays 2D content with a minimal loss of resolution.

“This is an evolution,” said Magnetic CEO Tom Zerega. “The next big thing is 3D. The only thing that was holding back the adoption of 3D was the availability of content for that format. Magnetic’s solution solves that problem, enabling 2D content to also be displayed.”

AKA COMMENT

The 3D market has been trying to shake its 'gimicky' image - and with advertisers looking for a point of difference, good 3D would certainly provide opportunities. This looks like the way forward - no glasses and can play 2D content as well - perhaps 3D will not always be 'the next' big thing.
