PlasMedia Selects Helius For Its Mall Digital SIgnage Network

19 Jun 2008
PlasMedia, the US in-mall digital signage network operator, has selected Helius to provide the digital signage software for its 100 location network.

PlasMedia operates an ad-funded digital network that services over 3,600 local advertisers targeting the millions of shoppers within its malls. Having previously operated the network by manually updating adverts - as the network grew, PlasMedia decided to trial Hughes Networks' Helius solution for remote content management and distribution.

The Helius solution has integrated cellular broadband access to each of the media players, thereby enabling connectivity at each remote play-out device.

AKA COMMENT

There are still a lot of networks out there that still haven't connected their screens to remote content management systems. As Focus Media in China will confirm, the 'sneaker net' model of teams of people updating screens manually can in many cases be an efficient, low cost and reliable solution.

For PlasMedia the large number of local advertisers and the growing size of the network meant that manual programming was beginning to slow their growth. Managing the playlists for 100 sites with 3,600 local advertisers and regular promotional updatesleft them with no choice but to move to an on-line content management system.
